This book beautifully captures what life is like for the twelve monks and sixteen islanders living on Caldey, a miniscule island off the coast of Wales. The sense of isolation and being at the mercy of nature comes through on every page.

The 23-year-old documentary photographer Ilse Wolf studied photography at the Royal Academy of Arts in Antwerp. Then she continued her studies at AKV St. Joost in Breda, the Netherlands, where she got her bachelor degree in photography. 'Weather Permitting' is her graduation project. Like her other projects it started as a personal quest. What is loneliness? Does that even exist? She wondered what it would be like to escape from the fast consumer's society. To be really alone. To just see what the day will bring you. To be dependent on nature. Previously Ilse Wolf has made a photo report on Intensive Care and a documentary on the Payatas garbage belt in Manilla. She has been working as a freelance photographer from her studio in Breda for a number of years. Weather Permitting is her first photobook.
