The photographs compiled in this 1994 folio were captured after Whitaker was introduced to Dalí in 1967 by art collector Douglas Cooper. Dalí famously welcomed the former Beatles photographer by telling him: "I love being photographed by a sympathetic person. I am the greatest prostitute in posing for pictures in the world."

Whitaker built a close rapport with Dalí, taking raw, intimate close-ups from 1967 through the early 1970s—a style he described as "shooting into every hole to get into Dali's brain." The 1994 portfolio marked the very first time this specific, rare assembly of imagery was released to the public.
